Die 24. U-Flottille wurde im Oktober 1939 als U-Ausbildungsflottille gegründet, im April 1940 in die 1. U-Ausbildungsflottille, und im Juli 1940 in 24. U-Flottille umbenannt. Die Flottille war für die Kommandanten-Schießausbildung, später auch für die Unterwasserortungsausbildung zuständig. Sie wurde im März 1945 aufgelöst.
Von Oktober 1939 bis zum Juni 1941 befand sich die Flottille in Danzig und kam dann bis Oktober 1944 nach Memel.
