Die 1. U-Flottille wurde am 27.09.1935, unter dem Namen U-Flottille WEDDIGEN, als Ausbildungs- später als Frontflottille, in Kiel aufgestellt. Nach dem 31.12.1939 wurden die bestehenden Flottillen zusammengelegt. Die 1. U-Flottille WEDDIGEN, die 3. U-Flottille LOHS und die 5. U-Flottille EMSMANN wurden zur 1. U-Flottille vereinigt. Die U-Flottille WEDDIGEN hatte die Feldpostnummer M-06 153.
