Die 6. U-Flottille wurde am 01.10.1938 unter dem Namen 6. U-Flottille HUNDIUS, als Ausbildungs- und später als Frontflottille, in Kiel aufgestellt. Nach dem 31.12.1939 wurden die bestehenden Flottillen zusammengelegt. Boote aus der 6. U-Flottille HUNDIUS und der 2. U-Flottille SALTZWEDEL wurden zur 2. U-Flottille vereinigt. Die U-Flottille HUNDIUS hatte die Feldpostnummer M-42 831.
