Die 2. Geleitflottille wurde am 01.10.1935 in Kiel aufgestellt. Am 29.10.1938 wurde sie mit der 1. Geleitflottille zur Geleitflottille zusammen gefasst und in Cuxhaven stationiert.

Im März 1944 wurde in Pola eine neue 2. Geleitflottille zum Geleitdienst, U-Bootsjagd und Sicherungsaufgaben in der Adria von Fiume und Pola aus aufgestellt. Sie unterstand der 11. Sicherungsdivision und wurde bei Kriegsende aufgelöst.
